For women of a certain age – OK, my age *cough* The Princess Bride is a seminal movie. It’s funny, zany (love that word), and yes, romantic and sweet too. It also has the bloke from Homeland in it.
But in case you were born sometime after the movie came out, the plot goes like this: A boy is read a fairy story that has been handed down and as he listens the action comes to life before his very eyes. Princess Buttercup (Robin Wright) has not only been promised to a horrid prince as his wife but is being held hostage in order to spark a war. Can her childhood sweetheart Westley (Cary Elwes) and his band of strange but merry men save her?
Well you don’t have long to wait to find out, because the 25th anniversary edition Blu-Ray is out on March 25 – and there are also some special screenings at Vue cinemas this weekend.

This is my most favourite film ever, as a kid I had a t shirt saying “I survived the fire swamp” ! Now my kids love this film too. Be great to have on dvd (my copy is on video, taped off the tv).
