I know several kids (all boys as it happens, but I don’t think it’s just a boy-thing) who are OBSESSED with BAFTA-award winning sandbox game Minecraft, to the point where their parents have to drag them away to make them eat/do their homework/go to bed. But there’s a reason it’s so popular (apart from the cool factor) and that’s because it’s great for their brain power and their strategy skills, and that’s no bad thing.
So full marks to Egmont for bringing out a series of Minecraft books, which means you might get them away from the screens and actually reading about the game instead of just playing it.
The Minecraft Annual is out now and The Minecraft Beginner’s Handbook is available for pre-order (it launches on 10 October 2013). They’ll be followed by The Redstone Handbook in December 2013 – essential reading for all Minecraft fans. (For more info or to pre-order the books click here).
And the good news is I have five copies of The Minecraft Annual 2014 to give away, worth £7.99 each. The book celebrates the limitless possibilities of the exciting world of Minecraft, is packed full of step-by-step instructions for exciting builds and projects, tips from the experts (including lead game developer Jeb), cool things to make, games to test their brain power and codes to unravel.
All you have to do for your chance to win one of the books is to leave a comment below by the closing date, 11.59pm on Monday October 7. The winners will be chosen at random using a random number generator and the usual The Mum Blog competition rules apply.
Good luck!
Would love to win this for my young brother who is a massive Minecraft fan!!
I want to win this sooooo badly. I teach MS and my students have gotten me hooked on Minecraft and I want to learn much more so I can actually use it in my curriculum. I am at the oh so beginning stage of this game and need something to help me get a jump start on learning this program as soon as possible. I sure hope I win!!!! Good luck everyone 🙂
Oh Wow! My 2 boys are obsessed with Minecraft and had me take them to Minecon last year for my eldest sons birthday.I sat around for days watching everyone having a ball. This would be a great start to my christmas shopping and would be able to knock at least one thing off the christmas list that keeps growing and growing!
Well my 2 daughters (6 & 9) are obsessed! They watch YouTube for more ideas then go back and refine their lands. Can’t keep them off it!
I have a mini minecraft addict who would love this.
When both my boys aren’t physically playing it (one on ipad one on xbox) they are watching youtube videos of other people playing it!! Crazyness!! Minecraft obsessed!!!!!
My son would love this under the Christmas tree! X
We’ve a son of 13 who’s a big Minecraft fan – links with his friends and chats to them using a mike – some of the things they say are most amusing! Fantastic game, but would be nice to get him away from a screen for 5 mins.
*mic !
My son is a massive Minecraft fan – loves everything about it especially the pigs!
My son is just starting to get into Minecraft so this would win me serious brownie points.
I would like the chance to win it please 🙂
My son is Minecraft mad! I think I would definitely be the ‘best mum ever!’ if I managed to get him one of these annuals! 🙂
i didn’t even know there was an annual my son is obsessed with it
Both my two are obsessed with this game! My almost 11yo and my 4.5yo. They share worlds, knock down houses, shoot animals – I don’t understand any of it!! X
Both of my older children (male and female) spend all their spare time on Minecraft – they would love this and yes….it might get them off the laptop for a while!
Yes please! My little brother’s a big fan! 🙂
My two boys absolutely love Minecraft. They’re always trying to tell me about things they’ve built in it. I should probably listen….
Deffo not just for the boys! My daughter 10 and her friends love building stuff in minecraft! 😀 cheers! 😉
I am a Minecraft widow! My son (8), my daughter (11) and my husband (38) all love playing it and they love playing on it together…2 laptops and a pc. Great for team building skills too! This Annual would be perfect for them. x
Both of mine love Minecraft, but the 7 year old is most obsessed. If he’s not playing it he’s talking about it or watching You Tube videos about it!
We hit our 40GB broadband limit this month due to Minecraft and the strange chaps who make videos about Minecraft. The 9yo lives and breathes blocks and diamond swords. This would be the perfect book for him..
I have secretly upgraded the broadband to unlimited but will not tell him for months 🙂
My 6yr old is obsessed with playing with this, I wasn’t sure he was old enough but he absolutely loves it and so do alot of his school friends.
I still can’t get my head around why they enjoy this game so much – both my teens are obsessed with it and would play morning, noon and night given half a chance. I would love to win this handbook for them!
I have heard this is a great book so please pop my name in your lucky hat! Thanks!
