Win 100 pounds to spend on gorgeous things for your home

January 30, 2012

I think it was William Morris who said buy only what you know to be useful and believe to be beautiful; it’s something I’ve stuck to through renovating three houses. I make sure I only ever buy gorgeous, useful things we’ll want to keep.

That’s why I’ve been spending lots of time perusing Palmers. They stock fabulous homewares by household names including Kirstie Allsopp, Jamie Oliver, Cath Kidston and Joseph Joseph.

And I’m very excited to be giving you the opportunity to win ยฃ100 to spend in this easy competition.

All you have to do is to take a look at their range of homewares and then come back and tell me some of the things you would like to buy if you’re given ยฃ100 to spend, and why.

(NB there is no cash alternative for this prize. Usual The Mum Blog competition rules apply. Closing date is next monday).

I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Good luck!

What a wonderful prize! Palmers have some really gorgeous items on their site, it would be difficult to decide. However our bed linen is old now and looking really tired and tatty, so i think I would choose a set first and foremost. I particularly love Kirstie Allsops collection, and would go for the ‘Camille’ duvet set, it is gorgeous and my partner would like it too i’m sure. I would spend the rest on accessories, we need to replace our lounge cushions as the stuffing has completely flattened and they dont match our current colour scheme, just never got round to buying new ones as never a priority! x

I would head straight to the bedroom department as ours needs a bit of updating with some new bedding (the kingsly harlem stripey duvet set would add some brightness), and a new duvet and some new pillows wouldnt go amiss either.

  • Angie Hoggett February 4, 2012 at 5:12 pm

I’d buy a new dinner set, there are some gorgeous Denby sets I could buy. I really need a new set as all mine are starting to crack I’ve had them for years!!

  • Tracey Belcher February 4, 2012 at 3:32 pm

To be truthful I would let my daughter choose as she is setting up her first home from scratch so needs so much! A nice saucepan set would be top of her list such as the Judge one and also kitchen utensils x

  • Emma Gallagher February 4, 2012 at 3:29 pm

I love Joseph Joseph so I would definitely be looking to upgrade my 1990’s kitchen gadgets for some funky and modern ones!. I love Alessi too and would love one of their corkscrews.

  • Emma Davis February 4, 2012 at 12:06 pm

I just love the Le Chateau Chrysanthemum quilted bedspread! It could keep me warm and snuggley on these cold winter nights. I would also love any bakeware product as I am a keen baker. Maybe I could have a cake while I’m all tucked up!

  • Christine Carroll February 4, 2012 at 10:38 am

    Oh what a lovely competition!
So pleased to have found this Company!
I would have to buy the Swan full size cup-cake maker, the Prestige spring-form baking tin and the square cake tin with loose base. I am doing a cake decorating course at the moment and love baking so these would all be useful and I might have to have the wire cup-cake stand as well!
    Thank you!

  • emma kinsey February 4, 2012 at 7:37 am

i would love pots and pans and disney mugs and little princess mugs for my 3 girls i also love the dog bags and purses. What a lovely website

  • phyllis ellett February 4, 2012 at 6:41 am

The lovely Palmers is 10 minutes away from where we live.

Would spend the money on loads of kitchen utensils as they are of great quality, so chuck out all the old and replace with lovely new.

  • Laura Carroll February 4, 2012 at 3:45 am

Wow, what a gorgeous website! I’m tempted by everything on it!

I think I would use the voucher to buy some beautiful new cushions to brighten up my very drab living room! There are so many pretty ones but I would probably choose the Monsoon Papillon Multi Sequinned Cushion, the Malini Bianca Cushion and the Kirstie Allsopp Ric Rac Cushion! Then I’d have money left for a sexy Kylie Minogue Kavala Cushion for the bedroom too! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks for the amazing competition!

  • Lesley Bain February 4, 2012 at 1:21 am

Oooh there’s a surprise….I’ve overspent on my budget already!
If I was lucky enough to win ยฃ100 to spend on this lovely site I would most definitely want the Kylie Minogue at Home Grace Throw.
After having four children of my own, and now being the very proud grandmother of my gorgeous wee granddaughter my sofa has taken so much icky abuse that I am embarassed by the stained mess of it. Sadly I can’t afford a new one, but if I could cover it with this gorgeous throw it would completely transform my livingroom….:)

  • Tina Mansfield February 3, 2012 at 9:14 pm

There is far too much on this site and I might need more than ยฃ100 but I would have to start with snuggle touch wave throw for my bed, and then maybe a cusion and a duvet set, and finall I need a new mug for work, and the arista cats one is so sweet might just have to treat myself… Thanks for this comp its great.

  • Laura Pritchard February 3, 2012 at 8:46 pm

I’d choose the V&A Butterfly Rose Duvet Cover Set as we still currently live like students with our reversible brown/beige Argo cheap bedding! Would love to have a girly ‘boudoir’ more becoming of a 30 year old mum!

  • Lewis H February 3, 2012 at 8:05 pm

I’d spend it on everything from utensils to cushions and curtains. I’ve just bought my first house and I need one of everything!

I would love some Jospeh Jospeh bowls to replace my mismatch of bowls I own !

  • Paula Evans February 3, 2012 at 3:27 pm

I would get a Judge cool casserole in purple as we have none and use a pan with tinfoil over it at the moment ๐Ÿ™‚ .
A judge stunning stockpot in purple as our stockpot the lid has broken, this one id fab love the colour and would match the casserole colour.
The Judge stainless steel 4 piece saucepan set as we only have a frying pan and one large saucepan,

Fabulous competition would love to win, fingers crossed

    Paula

  • Nell Dixon February 3, 2012 at 3:01 pm

I desperately need some new saucepans and those Judge ones look lovely – like the draining lips.

  • Pauline Mayes February 3, 2012 at 1:26 pm

A lovely prize, making it a difficult choice. I have a fairly new home with a blue bedroom, so a Richard Inglis duvet cover set and a lovely warm Fine Bedding Co. goose and feather down duvet to keep me warm.

  • Alison February 3, 2012 at 12:40 pm

I need cake tins as mine leak so I would go mad and get loads and then do some baking

I would like to brighten up my kitchen with a range of Joseph Joseph products

  • Claire Kemp February 3, 2012 at 11:35 am

I LOVE the Sandersons dandelion clocks duvet cover as I’m OBSESSED with this print…even had a wallpaper sample of it that I’ve kept to drool over even though we couldn’t afford to buy it! Also it would match my bedroom paintwork.
Failing that anything Kath Kidston floats my boat…oooh I could replace all my tatty mugs with her gorgeousness. :O)

  • Donna Gilligan February 3, 2012 at 10:27 am

How did I not know about this shop?! Love the miniamo baking stuff, and I’d have a new bed set too.

  • Fran Light February 2, 2012 at 9:11 pm

I’d love the Judge Electric Mini Chopper (a real time saver, and a ‘hassle eliminator’!), the Judge Stockpot in purple (my favourite colour!), the Alisons Animals Countryside 6 piece Coaster Set (so cute!) and the double Zandra Rhodes Keira Duvet Cover Set (because it is very similar to the difficult-to-match flowery wallpaper on one wall in my bedroom) … that was fun, I love compiling wish lists!

  • catherine @mummylion February 2, 2012 at 9:00 pm

well my kettle looks like it might not last that much longer so i’d replace that, and ive always fancied a cupcake maker, not having an oven at home. i could do with some curtains but you cant tell if they are lined or not from the website or how warm they will be.

  • Sarah Cooper February 2, 2012 at 8:37 pm

I think I would treat myself to the Sanderson Dandelion Clocks Duvet Cover if I were lucky enough to win. It would give me an excuse to rejuvenate my currently rather dreary bedroom and give it a cooling and calming feel, I can just imagine myself being whisked away to a cool field whilst blowing dandelions in to the wind looking at this bedding.

Thanks for introducing me to Palmers, some lovely items there.

  • Michelle February 2, 2012 at 6:02 pm

Oh wow, I’d probably get the whole miniamo range for Chloe as it’s so cute and try to squeeze in something from the Joseph Joseph range of goodies for me!

    @Fluffy_Mummy

  • Tracey Ryder February 2, 2012 at 5:05 pm

    oh some lovely bedding

  • Melanie McNair February 2, 2012 at 2:18 pm

  • Stacey Woods February 1, 2012 at 9:34 pm

I’d go nuts in the Make and Bake section! I’d buy a good quality icing set as I’m sick of cheapo icing bags that break and nozzles that get clogged.

And I love the cupcake maker and jam-making supplies. I’m not kidding I could spend ages browsing and coveting all the kitchen goods!!

  • Super Amazing Mum February 1, 2012 at 9:13 pm

I would have to go for some new bedding firstly, can’t choose what 1 because i luuuurve all of them so any one of them would be great. secondly some new kitchen gadgets. I’ve been slacking lately in the kitchen department but would love to get back into it and my 3 eldest boys love helping out in the kitchen. We had our 4th son 6 weeks ago so i haven’t had as much time with them lately….this would be great to give me that push i need and have the boys helping out while daddy looks after the bubba x

  • Maya Russell February 1, 2012 at 10:14 am

    1. Alisons Animals Lap Tray – Last Tree Before Town. This would give me a few chuckles as I had breakfast in bed.

    2. Stellar Soft Touch Nut Cracker – it’s cracking!

    3. Jamie Oliver Cheeky Coaster – Super Mum – need I say more?

And there are lots more items I think are gorgeous!

  • Kelly Wiffin February 1, 2012 at 9:11 am

I would love to get some baking equipment, I hardly have any. I would like to get some childrens baking equipment so my daughter can help out too.

I would have to get my daughter a Trunki too.

Some wine glasses would be nice, but so would a bathroom cabinet.

I think I would take a week to decide what to buy!

  • Julie February 1, 2012 at 8:18 am

What a great prize, and I honestly think I’d struggle to limit myself… although what I really need right now is some bathroom storage, so might go for one of the mirror cabinets. That wouldn’t really leave me much change, but I’d have to see whether I could squeeze a funky towel out of it too!

  • Claire Smith February 1, 2012 at 6:53 am

I love Joseph Joseph kitchenware fab designs and really colorful so I think I would be investing in some of their range

  • Hazel Christopher February 1, 2012 at 12:20 am

Well I weighed myself today for the first time since I had my little boy (18months ago), I thought I’d lost all my baby weight so was really disappointed to find I still have 1/2stone to shift to get to pre-pregnancy weight. So I would treat myself to some lovely new kitchen gadgets to help encourage me to do really get back into good healthy home cooking (lack of sleep since having baby has meant I’ve been slacking slightly in the kitchen department).

    Thank you for the competition.

  • Sally Smith January 31, 2012 at 11:13 pm

it would have to be bedding – probably a new duvet – we really need one!

  • Elizabeth Smith January 31, 2012 at 10:56 pm

Oh blimey, where do I start? Well I’ve been saving my pennies for a new kitchen (well, new to me) and its actually going to happen in a fortnight!! So I’d splash out on some accessories. Number one would be Stellar stainless steel Hanging Rack and Hooks as I couldn’t stretch to all the wall cupboards I want and these would be great for storage. Next would be a Joseph Joseph Icons worktop savers because they fulfil a function and make me smile. And talking about making me smile, I think Alisons Animals Standard Tray ‘Last tree before town” is very apt for a household with three beloved mutts.

  • Gillian Holmes January 31, 2012 at 10:39 pm

I would love to own the Breville Polished Steel Jug Kettle because mine is on the blink and the Sanderson Dandelion Clocks Embroidered Towel simply because I like them.

  • Daisybeebee January 31, 2012 at 3:16 pm

Wow , such a wonderful choice.!! I think it would have to be a couple of Kirstie Allsop cushions for my new bedroom and more baking goodies.

  • Gemma Barfield January 31, 2012 at 1:15 pm

I would definitely spend the majority of it on the Kirsty Allsopp range, some beautiful furnishings. And also the Kylie duvets are gorgeous too! If I had anything left after Mekong my house all cozy and pretty, then I would stock up on baking goods ๐Ÿ˜€

Wow! Lovely site, I was surprised what good value it is too, I was expecting it to be really expensive.

I’ve wanted on of these Joseph Joseph chopping board sets for ages… stylish and super practical so I’d definitely go for that. Then replace my value kettle with a stylish one…

…and finally a Dandelion Printed towel for my downstairs loo! Well this is the room most visitors see isn’t it?!

  • Erica Price January 31, 2012 at 11:40 am

Very difficult as spoilt for choice. I think though
http://www.palmerstores.com/product/horrockses-sophia-duvet-cover/1059/ to replace the oil stained covers that we have now (cat and previous neighbour’s old banger van).

  • Belinda Matthews January 31, 2012 at 11:19 am

I would most probably buy some new pillows as mine have died,

  • Kara Guppy January 31, 2012 at 11:16 am

I could spend far more than ยฃ100, but I have my heart set on the Judge Cool Stockpot and Casserole Pot, plus the Aynsley Daisy Chain Tablewear (might have to keep that for best though as my kids have a habit of breaking my plates!)

  • Sam January 31, 2012 at 11:14 am

I must admit I headed *straight* for the Kitchen section as I’m a sucker for new cooking equipment! I’ve been hankering after some Joseph Joseph bits for ages and would choose the Index Chopping Boards, 8 Piece Multicolour Nest and that very patriotic Berry Union Jack Worktop Saver ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Mummy Fever January 31, 2012 at 11:01 am

Fine Bedding Company 13.5 tog goose feather and down duvet. Id love this as we need a new duvet. My partner went out and bought us a new one last week he came back all delighted with himself that he bought the new duvet. When i took it out to put it on the bed as the old one is threadbare i found he had bught a 7.5 tog. Now dont get me wrong its a nice clean not ripped duvet but the weather is freezing!! He thought a duvet was a duvet he hadnt and stil doesnt get what im talking about when i said it was only 7.5 tog.

Crockery for serving desserts, or bedroom quilt covers or mirrors for the bathroom or …I could spend a fortune in there!

  • Viv Smith January 30, 2012 at 8:55 pm

What a lovely website! I actually would need more than ยฃ100 to spend! But, a few things stood out.
The cabled throw. Although I can knit, I just don’t think I have the patience to take on such a big project even though I’d absolutely love a cabled throw for snuggling under.

This Simplicity 4 piece oval serving set. So much neater and less cluttered than a variety of different dishes that don’t fit together.

I’d also love a variety of baking tins etc, including the Square cake tin as I only have a round one!

Thanks for running such a great competition ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Make do mum January 30, 2012 at 8:47 pm

  • Insomniac Mummy January 30, 2012 at 7:52 pm

I’d definitely buy myself the Jamie Oliver ‘Bossy Boots’ mug, for work. I have a bit of a reputation, not sure why *cough*….

After that, I’d probably indulge my obsession with all things cakey bun, and raid the kitchen section!

    ๐Ÿ™‚

  • SOPHIE January 30, 2012 at 7:44 pm

Ooooooooooooooo definitely bedlinen for the whole family.the sort of thing you always mean to buy but never get round too!! That’s not to say that my family sleep in flea infested beds, just that we never treat ourselves to new linen!!! We are clean, promise!!!

  • Lucy SP January 30, 2012 at 7:42 pm

Fab site, so many lovely, cool things. But if I am lucky enough to win this prize, I’d spend the money on some new, crisp, clean bedding! And the reason – simple……Since becoming a new mum a year ago, my lovely duvet covers & pillow cases have been puked on, widdled on by my gorgeous girl (why does she always wee when I take her nappy off… Yet I never learn & use the changing mat which is sitting by the bed collecting dust!) & she regularly spills her baby milk on the bedding! I promise to look after any new bedding accordingly & not let it be used as a tissue, wet wipe or dishcloth!

  • Nickie January 30, 2012 at 7:16 pm

oohh I’d love a new throw for the bed and then maybe a new bathroom mirrow.

  • Aga Girls January 30, 2012 at 7:14 pm

This is my kind of competition any excuse to procrastinate by window shopping. I had never heard of this company but they have some loverly things. I must admit that when it comes to kitchen goods I would rather have few better quality items. So my shopping list is not very long but full of expensive items.

I am right handed and currently we only own a left handed potato peeler. Which let me tell you is incredibly irritating not to mention inefficient.

Secondly I would like the jam thermometer I have recently discovered whoopie pies but according to the hummingbird book you must fill them with marshmallow icing made with fluff. But this is not cheap or easy to get hold of. The only alternative is a recipe which includes bring the mixture to a soft boil, hence the pressing desire for a thermometer.

My third and most expensive request would be for a pressure cooker. I am wary of buying a cheap pressure as I worry it could go disasterously wrong. I learned to cook on an Aga which means lots of stews and the like cook for a long time at a slow temperature. But I can’t help feeling that burning gas for three hours defeats the purpose of eating cheap cuts of meat. I have recently read on a number of blogs and watch heston how seems to assure me that the answer to my problem would be a pressure cooker.

Lastly a set of wine glasses the only thing I am a real snob is are glasses, lets face it I can only afford cheap wine but somehow it tastes better out of a nice glass.

With 100 to spend I’d treat my beds to vintage feel duvet sets. I particularly like the Richard Inglis Enchantement and the pretty V&A ranges. I’d buy kingsize as I am using a large quilt. I’m hoping to restore an old iron bed so these would look perfect.
