I’ve got Royal Baby fever – I’m not kidding. I can’t wait for this baby to be born. It’s probably partly because I’ve seen the Duchess of Cambridge in the flesh a few times now, and seen her vulnerability at close quarters – she is, at the end of the day, a young woman coping with an extraordinary set of circumstances. And also partly because, like so many other mums, I feel that collective maternal thing for William, the boy who has had to cope with so much without his own mother.
I can’t remember having any interest in the births of Eugenie or Beatrice, or quite so much interest in the arrival of Harry or William, to be honest. I definitely haven’t changed my sensibilities – I’m not, by any stretch of the imagination, a monarchist. But the arrival of this Royal Baby is definitely something to feel good about. Bring it on.
*And now the baby has been born! And he’s a boy! Hooray!
