One of my favourite ways to relax, particularly if I’m having trouble drifting off to sleep, is to imagine I’m back in Waikiki with the sound of the ocean waves lapping the shore.
Hawaii is my escape place – and every time I watch 50 First Dates (and The Descendants) or hear Somewhere Over the Rainbow I’m right back there.
The beauty of travel is that even when you leave a place you take the memories and sounds with you, and while you may be thousands of miles away, it doesn’t take much to imagine yourself right back there, and to conjure up those same feelings you experienced on your trip.

Hawaii is on my top to-go-to list.
Of the places that I’ve been, there are a few that make the “top memories” list. Mine are:
* Bologna – went October last year to discover fabulous food, vibrant university vibe and cheese shops that only sell Parmesan
* Big Bend park in Texas – wild, dramatic landscape, rustic and Mexico is a boat ride across the river
* Bali – I wrote about this recently. Gorgeous island, exotic and transportive.
Nice post.
