As an aspiring women’s popular fiction novelist *ahem*, one of my guiltiest pleasures is watching rom coms. The cheesier, the better. I don’t really mind if it stars Drew Barrymore/Katherine Heigl, whoever, as long as it’s your standard girl meets boy, overcomes love obstacle, girl gets boy plot, I’m happy.
I was having a look at the brilliant blog Movies For Dads, which is obviously about… movies for dads, and while I absolutely love lots of those films, too, it started me thinking about my favourite flicks for chicks.
So here, in no particular order, are five of the ones I can watch over and over again (obviously when there’s no one else in to pour scorn, and preferably with some chocolate close to hand):
*Enchanted. Totally not what I was expecting, and of course it has Patrick Dempsey…
*Serendipity. The perfect Christmas movie, and John Cusack is just delectable in it.
*Ten Things I Hate About You. How sexy was Heath Ledger in this movie?
*27 Dresses. My favourite scene without a doubt is the one where they sing Benny and the Jets. LOVE it.
*The Princess Diaries. The part where she’s transformed with tweezers? Genius.
What’s your favourite chick flick? I’d love to know.
There are so many good title here, I can spend a lifetime watching.
For me though Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn is all time favorite.
The Family Stone
The Holiday
Fifty first date
How to lose a guy in ten days
17 Again-I want to dance with Zac Efron and have him pick me up and swing me round!!!
Knocked up
Juno
My Girl
Father of the Bride
Beaches
Mermaids
I too could go on!
Oh ooh The Wedding Singer-love love love the song on the plane at the end!
Big fav is When Harry Met Sally – the cafe scene, a classic.
or City of Angels.
think I am in love with Meg Ryan….
lol – she sort of annoys me, but I loved City of Angels too!
Dirty Dancing
Love Actually
Ghost
I sort of feel I’ve seen Love Actually too many times now (given it seems to be on TV so often); I loved Ghost when I was a teen.
A lesser known one perhaps but a huge favourite of mine – The Holiday
Oh I love The Holiday – Jude Law is delicious in it.
Hi I love chick flicks too, my top ones would be:
Love actually
Bridget Jones
Pride and Prejudice
Four Weddings and a Funeral
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
There’s Something About Mary
Meet the Parents
Sorry, I could just go on!!
Yep love all these – I’m not sure I would have thought of There’s Something About Mary and Meet the Parents as chick flicks though… but I guess they’re romantic!
It has to be a tie between FOOTLOOSE, and REALITY BITES (Ethan Hawke and Winona Ryder).
V close runners up would be, DIRTY DANCING, GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN, COCKTAIL, PRETTY IN PINK and CRUEL INTENTIONS
Ah Pretty in Pink. James Spader. Hubba hubba *sigh*.
50 first dates, pretty woman, miss congeniality, does murials wedding count? X x
Muriel’s Wedding DEFINITELY counts. And 50 First Dates, OMG, one of my all time favourite movies – not least because I’ve been to the place where they run over the penguin!
For me its got to be ‘The Bridges of Madison County’ and ‘The Big Chill’. I dream about them alot thats how I know they are my faves!
Oh wow The Big Chill, awesome movie.
Mine is Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. And 13 going on 30.
13 Going on 30 – brilliant film!
Green Fried Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe
Pretty Woman
Beaches
Fried Green Tomatoes! OMG I love that movie! *sobs*
Bridges of Madison County. Client Eastwood, Meryl Streep. I think you need to be older though to appreciate it? That is, past romantic, fairy tale-type love.
No I appreciate it too *cough*.
I’m not really sure to be honest, I prefer police and detective dramas than chick flicks. But if I had to say one I’d say Indecent Proposal, if it’s classed as such. I love Demi Moore and adore Robert Redford, which has just made me think of another I love, The Horse Whisperer, Kirsten Scott Thomas starring opposite Redford, fabulous film.
CJ xx
The Horse Whisperer! OMG such an affecting movie in it, and Redford was gorgeous in it.
All of them, all of them, I love them all.
Serendipity
Sleepless in Seattle
10 Things ( oh Heath we miss you so)
Green Card
Love Actually
Return To Me
I love it when it’s just me and my daughters home for the day, snacks out, dvds rolling.
Perfect rainy Saturday afternoon, IMHO.
maybe second time lucky – lost first version
The Proposal
Nancy Meyer films – It’s Complicated
and As good as it gets
Two Weeks Notice
The Ugly Truth
but by far my fave, that I watch over and over again is It’s Complicated.
Kiddlies love the disney flicks such as Starstruck, Princess diaries, and that’s 2 boys and a girl xxx
LOVE The Proposal!
My favourites are Sweet home Alabama, Dirty Dancing , Fools rush in and of course 10 things I hate about you!
Yes I love Fools Rush in too, it’s the MM effect!
I love all the Nancy Meyer films (It’s Complicated (Meryl Streep), “As good as it gets”…) and love “two weeks notice” with Hugh Grant and “the proposal” with Sandra Bullock – have watched them all over and over and over again. The kids (2 boys and a girl) all love the Princess Diaries, and we’re really into Star Struck and kiddlie Disney movies like that too – anything with feel good factor xxx
I enjoy Nancy Meyer films too- I guess they’re slightly more sophisticated chick flicks.
Ah, love these – have seen 3 of the 5. Completely agree about The Notebook, it’s a definite fave of mine too. x
And of course Mr Cusack x
romy and michelles high school reunion
wedding singer
crossroads
clueless
Yes love Clueless, and Romy and Michelle – genius movie!
Is dirty dancing a chick flick? I guess it is..
Of COURSE it is!
Here’s my favourites –
Pretty Woman
Dirty Dancing
Bridget Jones
Ghost
fab selection Carol!
Hmm, tricky one.
The Proposal – naked body scene and LOVE that house.
Sleepless in Seattle – goosebumps every time.
Must Love Dogs – John Cusack. Enough said.
Love Actually – the airport scenes at the end.
I just know I’m going to think of more….
The Break-up. Or The Last Kiss – Casey Affleck and Zach Braff, can’t be bad.
Steel Magnolias
When Harry Met Sally
Sleepless in Seattle
Beaches.
All Time Favourite Film FACT!!
Love love love Dirty Dancing, could watch it again and again (of course I would never confess to singing/dancing along/reciting parts of the film, ahem).
Haha, I think I’m not telling you a secret when I let you know that that’s what we all do 😉
Oooh, good one.
Here are my top 3:
Some Kind of Wonderful is my all time fave.
Sweet Home Alabama comes a close second and How To Lose a Guy in 10 days. OMG Matthew McConaughey. What I wouldn’t do to that man.
Anything with Colin Firth in it.
Bridget Jones probably my favourite though
My all time favourite is Chocolat
Sweet Home Alabama
Clueless
Love and Other Drugs
Definitely The Notebook without a doubt…..just brilliant!!
The Notebook is definitely one of my favourites too – gosh did that make me cry! I also have a soft spot for Love Actually, Thelma and Louise and Romeo and Juliet.
God yes, The Notebook is terribly sad. Message in a Bottle makes me cry the Niagara Falls just as much though – must be because they’re both based on novels by Nicholas Sparks.
