I was in France overnight on Thursday, cruising from Sète to Marseilles – but before our ship, the Azamara Quest, departed, we were treated to a display of water jousting.
Thankfully this involves men dressed in white (some of them VERY attractive *cough*), rather than horses. There are two boats and they take it in turns to try to knock each other into the water. Of course really the crowd are hoping they DO fall in the water, and they oblige very regularly.
What amused me is that when they fall in, a little boat chases after them, not to help them out – but to fish their shields and jousting poles out of the water.
We enjoyed strolling around Sète, which is a really lovely seaside town – typically French.
Afterwards we were treated to some local delicacies, including the most divine little mushroom pies, smoked haddock and egg crostini (nom) and very fresh oysters. All washed down with champagne.
Sometimes it’s good to have a change of scene, even if it’s only for a few hours.
