The Little Mermaid

November 16, 2011

So for this week’s Gallery TaraLara wanted us to take pictures on the same day – 11/11/11.

But the day before, I was on a whirlwind visit to Copenhagen with UNICEF. I mean, there, and back, in a day. I was simply too busy (and knackered) on the Friday to fulfill the brief, but it was for a good reason. More on that story later.

Meanwhile, here’s a photo I took on that day, instead. It’s of an iconic statue in Copenhagen, representing one of my favourite fairytales, The Little Mermaid. For those of you who don’t know (and I’m surprised how many don’t, it’s actually shocking), Hans Christian Andersen, one of Denmark’s most famous sons, and one of my favourite authors, wrote The Little Mermaid.

Here she is:

That photo has brought back happy memories of a family holiday I had when I was younger to Denmark.

We went to Copenhagen to see The Little Mermaid, I was a little disappointed when I saw her as I thought she would be bigger.

I’ve always wanted to see that. I think it’s a beautiful statue.

GG would love to see that – kind of special to a little girl 🙂

Great photo! I have always wanted to see this statue in real life since hearing about it as a kid.

Hope no-one fell in the sea during the taking of that picture.

A very beautiful photograph on what sounds an incredibly busy, but worthwhile, day x
