So I’ve just returned from a whirlwind weekend in Italy, celebrating the launch of the MSC Preziosa, which is an incredibly glamorous ship, with lots of bling.
The MSC cruise line godmother is Sophia Loren. I grew up watching Sophia Loren films, both my mum and I are huge fans, and Houseboat is one of my favourite movies of all time, so I couldn’t wait to see her in the flesh.
For the press conference she wore a very smart black and red outfit, and she really looked gorgeous – her hair was perfectly curled, her olive skin looks very good (and I don’t believe she’s had anything done), and she’s very slim. She spoke about how the proudest moments of her life have been winning an Oscar, and the birth of her son Carlo, after she had had trouble carrying a baby.
Later at the launch ceremony she had gone full-glam, and I was able to join the press photographer scrum. She was wearing some dazzling earrings and she looked stunning – it’s very hard to believe she’s 78.
We were also treated to a performance by legendary composer Ennio Morricone, who conducted an orchestra playing some of his most memorable film soundtracks, including The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, and The Mission (which reduced me to tears). It was wonderful.
It was an incredibly busy weekend, but I managed to make this vlog of my balcony stateroom. Enjoy.
