New Year’s Resolutions – if you blog them, you have to stick to them, right?

December 30, 2012

Bridget JonesI know I’m going a little against the grain here, but I actually like New Year’s resolutions, because really, they’re all about giving yourself little promises for the year ahead, and making it seem as full of hope as possible. And as I’m blogging my 2013 resolutions here, where they’ll be seen by thousands of you, then I have to stick to them, right?

I’m keeping it simple though – both of these resolutions should be easy enough to stick to:

1. To finish one of the books I’m writing and get it out to an agent.

I honestly can’t believe I haven’t done this yet. Partly it’s because I always seem to have so much going on and partly, I guess, it’s the fear of failure – having my writing judged by an agent is SCARY. But I’m going to do it this year. I AM.

2. To stick to New Year New Body for as long as it takes.

There’s a theme here, isn’t there? This year I managed to stick to New Year New Body and lose a stone, but there’s a lot more to come off, so in 2013 I’m going to stick to it for as long as it takes.

So, two tangible, manageable resolutions – have you made any? I’d love to know yours. And if we get to the end of 2013 and I haven’t stuck to either of them, you have my permission to remind me of this post.

*Disclaimer: This is not my actual body, but if I stick to No 2 it might be 🙂

[…] I know lots of people can write books without needing to be part of any kind of writing group or scheme but – probably because I’m a journalist – I always work best when I have a deadline. So now this means I need to finish one of the four novels I’ve been working on for the past few years by the end of August so that it can be read by a member of the RNA (and you can’t even be a member unless you’re a published author.) And it means I’ll be well on my way to achieving my goals for this year. […]

I gave up on resolutions years ago – no willpower! If I did however, I’d go for the losing weight one too, and being a more sociable person. Actually, I will be trying both but I daren’t give myself too much pressure to fulfil them!

    All the best for 2013.
