My Fencing Champion

August 8, 2012

For our Lord of the Rings-obsessed son, enrolling him for fencing lessons was one of the best decisions we ever made.

Not only did it do wonders for his confidence and fitness levels, and give him the chance to pretend to be Legolas for a few hours, it also taught him about good sportsmanship and paying close attention to the Rules of the Game. I cannot recommend it highly enough, for boys or girls (there are lots of both at our club).

We never set out to make him a champion, but of course when he came second in a county fencing championship, and won badge after badge and a few medals to boot we were incredibly proud.

Most of all we’re delighted he found a sport that he absolutely loves – so much so that he’ll even get out of bed at 9am on a Saturday morning to go to the club.
