Mountain high

February 22, 2012

For someone who really, really doesn’t like heights I seem to have spent an awful lot of time up mountains, most of the time with my heart in my mouth.

These pictures were taken in Switzerland; the top one from one of those great big chair lifts…

…and this is No 1 son and his friends skimming across the snow (I was far too nervous to try it). I love that the snow almost looks like surf. These photos were taken in summer, so even though the snow is cold, it was sunny. As you get higher and higher you start to slow down and find it harder to breathe; but the views are outstanding. And yes, you do get that mountain high.

I had to force myself to go up these mountains to take these shots. I’m very glad I did.

*This is my entry for The Gallery and the theme this week is ‘landscapes.’

wow – beautiful! i seem to have developed a fear of heights since having kids. in fact i think i’ve become more cautious in every way – maybe self preservation because i have little ones dependent on me now. or because i’m more conscious of safety (scared?) because every day i’m responsible for preserve them. i do love switzerland – despite all the heights! We go to the Alps in the summer. It’s lots of fun and much more interesting than winter, I think. Those chair lifts are a bit scary, aren’t they?

  • Emily McMillan February 22, 2012 at 8:40 am

Gorgeous! I’ve been on a few ski holidays in my time and the thing I love most about it is the scenery… how amazing we can get up these mountains to see these gorgeous views without having to walk 🙂 You were very brave to get up there, chair lifts are pretty scary even if you’re not afraid of heights!! x

Fabulous shots, I often go skiing to Switzerland, one of the best places to go. Did you ski at all? @Kahanka

  • Alexander Residence February 22, 2012 at 7:41 am

Wow breathtaking views and snow looks fun! Sympathise, my only experience of skiing was as a teacher on a school ski trip where it took 3 hours to get 10 kids down a blue run. We all got the fear when we saw real mountains.
