It’s an extraordinary feeling to look out and see sunshine when it’s midnight – and as we discovered on our Baltic cruise, the light is just incredible. No wonder there are celebrations for the midnight sun and white nights. When you’re out at sea, the contrast between the darkness of the ocean and the sky is breathtaking.
The midnight sun and white nights occur in the summer in countries which are north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle and it really never gets dark. It’s one of the most beautiful natural phenomenon in the world.
I took these photos last week somewhere between Russia and Estonia – with my iPhone, but #nofilter. Enjoy.
*This is my entry for The Gallery and the theme this week is ‘sun’.
[…] very lucky to have been on a few cruises, but if I try to think about where my love of being at sea comes from, I suspect it’s to do […]
lovely photos, love to see the midnight sun, have yet to go on my first cruise, on must do list!
The midnight sun shining in the first photo is exquisite! Wonderful touch of reflection there too! And love the trail of light on the water in the next two photos!

lovely pictures, especially the first one makes me want to be right at that spot x
The midnight sun is weird isn’t it? We experienced it when we went to Greenland last year. It’s a bugger getting the kids to sleep in it though!
What an amazing thing to experience it looks so beautiful
Amazing sky – perfect for this theme! x
Perfect post for this theme. Lovely, but sleepless?!!
They are really beautiful – the second one looks like you could get to the end of the ocean and just drop off, such a sharp looking horizon!
