OK I wasn’t *actually* house hunting in Santa Monica, more like playing Fantasy Homes by the Sea, if I won the lottery. But when I spent a few nights there in December on my way to and from Hawaii I couldn’t resist going for a walk along that glorious golden beach with its pastel-painted lifeguard huts…
…and then going for a good nose at the beachfront homes. Now these babies would set you back millions of dollars, but hey, a girl can dream, right?
They all looked really empty, so I’m guessing the owners were away for the Christmas holidays – in fact I saw very few people on the beach at all. Some of them are Art Deco and some of them are probably Sixties… I’m not sure which is my favourite style, but let’s face it I’d settle for any of them and I’m sure you would too. They all seemed quite small from the front but I think that’s probably deceptive, as these are definitely very luxurious houses.
I particularly loved the vanilla yellow of this art deco house, which looked so pretty in the sun…
and this rather minimalist home intrigued me, with its steel and glass and grass (very Californian, huh)…
this one had a sort of Spanish vibe (very Californian)…
…and then there was this rather pretty candy pink and purple house…
…and a slightly unexpected wooden seaside home, which reminded me of houses you see in Whitstable (only of course you get a lot more sunshine in Santa Monica).
Imagine waking up to this view every morning – it’s just glorious, right? I could definitely live in Santa Monica
Yep, I think I’m probably a California girl at heart.
