I’ve spent most of the past week trying to lose the 7lb (not kidding) I put on in Fort Lauderdale, because there’s something about American food (and jet lag) that makes me just want to eat everything in sight, and even though the portions are ENORMOUS you become used to them alarmingly quickly. Of course you can get healthy Florida food, too, but if you’re like me and you have a weakness for American breakfasts and sweet stuff and cocktails *cough* then you’d really have to have a will of IRON to resist. So as promised here’s my post about what I (mostly) ate in Florida…
On the first night at the Hollywood Prime restaurant at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa I went for fresh oysters…
…followed by a ginormous surf ‘n’ turf…
…I didn’t have room for dessert but back in my room there was a candy seahorse/starfish and macaroons (isn’t it beautiful?)…
…and for lunch at the Ocean Valley restaurant at Hollywood beach the next day I had a chargrilled chicken sandwich as big as my head…
…with a mojito SO strong I couldn’t actually drink it (and I’ve already told you about the Ben & Jerrys…)
…no dinner that night because it was the Cher gig so just lots of snacky things which of course meant I was ravenous the following day and for lunch at the very glamorous S3 I went for eggs crab benedict which was SO good…
…and a cheeky daiquiri (or two)…
…and the following morning I had American pancakes with maple syrup – so light and fluffy…
…but the absolute highlight of EVERYTHING I ate was the Key Lime Pie I ordered at the Grand Luxe Cafe at Sawgrass Mills; four of us ended up sharing this slice, it was so big – but my goodness it was delicious, with a gingery buttery biscuity crumb base and a whipped cream cheese topping that was lighter than air… I still dream about its limey goodness *sighs wistfully*.
What’s that about a moment on the lips? Still, totally worth it 😉
That daiquiri looks gorgeous. The Key lime pie in Florida is the best, on account of all those Key limes they have there. Yum.
