OK, confession time. And before you judge me, if you’ve ever seen that episode of Modern Family where Claire begs daughters Alex and Haley to accept her facebook friend request, and Know Exactly How She Feels when they refuse, then you’ll understand where I’m coming from.
It’s not that you want to pry, exactly *cough*, and of course your children have the right to privacy, yada yada. But as your kids grow up, up (and away from you), and the chances of them telling you much about anything diminsh with each birthday, it’s natural to want to know what they’re up to. Isn’t it?
Now like Alex and Haley, my son would never accept me as a friend on facebook. Trust me, it’s not even worth the humiliation of asking. So all I can really deduce from looking at his profile, which is set to private (exactly as it should be, to keep him safe from strangers, and er, his mum), is:
1. He has twice as many friends as I do.
2. A lot of his friends seem to be very pretty girls.
3. With the exception of his cousin, none of his friends are relatives.
See? None the wiser, really, but at least I feel vaguely reassured. Ish.
Am guilty as charged. But be careful. It can all backfire ….
Myself and my brother are the stalked children on the receiving end of a Facebook stalking mother. The only problem is, I am 29 and he is 31! My mum knows more about my friends than I do and is forever updating about what my friends have posted to my wall before I see it. Now my mum is the worst kind of Facebook stalker, she doesn’t even have her own account, she actually uses my Dad’s. therefore, when she posts a comment on my brothers pictures or updates, it’s always left as “that is fab Hun”!
All my children have me as a friend on Facebook. I like that they feel they can be that open with me. As a result, I never check up on them and I can tag them in embarrassing pictures.
I have even resorted to messaging his friends asking information about his exams as he hasn’t a clue lol
It was a condition when allowing them to have Facebook was that they would befriend me. Both girls have, I have to agreed not to write anything in their walls and no tagging them in embarrassing photos. So far I have kinda kept me end if the bargain, I mean they are teenagers and I have to have some revenge.
