Disneynature African Cats review

April 26, 2012

A single mother, raising five kids on her own, and a young female with an ageing mum. These are the stars of Disneynature’s African Cats, the quite extraordinary new film from Disneynature.

Sita is a fearless cheetah and mum to five newborns. Mara is a lion cub with her mother’s strength, spirit and wisdom. The film follows the two cats on their adventures in the African savannah.

The cinematography is stunning, the views of the Masai Mara breathtaking. And there’s a real story, too (narrated by Patrick Stewart), of two mothers fighting to protect their young. But it isn’t sugar-coated. It’s a warts ‘n’ all account of what life is like for big cats trying to survive when the odds appear to be stacked against them. There is killing, there is tragedy, sometimes it’s heartbreaking, but because it’s Disney, there’s a happy ending, of course.

Watch the trailer below, and take your kids (I’d recommend for age 7 up) to see African Cats this weekend. 5 stars (out of 5).

She looked stunning in her pale grey Matthew Williamson two piece – and yes, her waist is tiny. When we’d finished rubbernecking, the film began (read my review of African Cats here). […]
