An increasing number of mums are taking out payday loans to pay for Christmas, resulting in colossal debt problems which they can’t get out of and incredible emotional stress. What a desperate situation. I can completely understand that need to give your kids the Perfect Christmas, but this year we’re being quite frugal, because really, it is just one day out of a whole 365. We’ve told No 1 Son that his Santas (that’s me and his dad) will only be getting a few things on his list, because things are a bit tight, and he’s totally cool with it.
To paraphrase Jessie J, Christmas ain’t about the money, or the cha-ching. It’s about a little bit of bling – sparkle on the Christmas tree – and lovely traditions like cuddling up on the sofa to watch Elf on TV, or It’s a Wonderful Life.
Kids will be happy with whatever they’re given (and let’s not forget many babies and toddlers are more interested in wrapping paper and gift boxes than actual presents, I’m just saying.) The important thing at Christmas is to be together.
This is exactly what i wrote yesterday. Spending time with family and friends is the true meaning of Christmas.
