It’s been a while since a TV ad made me cry – the last one was I think the Thomson Holidays one about time. I thought last Christmas’s John Lewis ad was shamelessly manipulative.
But this one from Volkswagen really moves me – I guess because it’s a reminder of how quickly our children grow up. Have a watch and let me know what you think. It is, in my opinion, quite brilliant *sniffs*.

Oh yes, that’s a Kleenex one alright. Exactly the same as Jennifer’s thoughts on the girl wearing the Dad’s jumper – I can remember doing that exact same thing.
Of course what they don’t show is them having a party after she’s gone, turning her room into an office and them being able to bugger off on holiday whenever they want!
Yeah, at 0:17 I started welling up and by the end here comes the juice.
I think the bit that touches me most is the dad and young girl in the forest where she’s wearing his jumper – feels like a down to earth touch.
These type of ads are in vogue, and there’s a reason why – they’re touching and they work.
oh dear – *sniff* *sniff*
my son is only two and i’ve still got tears in my eyes!
made me cry too! Such a wimp!
yes, very well put together and definitely a heart tugger
yup, it made me cry
thanks! sniff
This moved me more than the John Lewis advertisement, especially since I have been the lone parent recently greeting the ‘young man at the door’. I liked the realism of it and didn’t feel manipulated…even if I was being. Very effective and one I haven’t seen yet.
Uh-huh….. *sniffs*
Ah, that’s lovely.
Oh I must be your advert opposite! I welled up at John Lewis and got annoyed by Thomson!
Have you seen the Quality Solicitors advert? Its harrowing. Harrowing I tell you. You think its going to be for a charity or something to do with the themes in it. They want us all depressed and weeping into our gin.
Aaargh, haven’t seen that yet and now I’m tearing up and cuddling my two just a little bit tighter this morning in case they grow up that quickly!
It doesn’t leave me cold, but I am slightly weary of adverts showing the passing of time. There are only so many ways to show a child growing up and I am confused as to who is selling me what. One knows where one is with a meercat!
Ok, now I’m a big weeping mess first thing in the morning. I haven’t seen that advert yet. It really is quite brilliant.
