A few of my favourite vintage things

July 20, 2011

The theme of this week’s Gallery is vintage, which is something I really love. I have some some gorgeous Cath Kidston stuff, and pretty Royal Albert china. But I also have some lovely original pieces – the Real Deal, as David Dickinson would say. Not worth a great deal, but bobby dazzlers to me.

My mum bought me the Clarice Cliff Fantasque sugar bowl for my 40th – I love the colours, and the fact you can actually see the brush strokes. Man of the House gave me the Art Deco silver coffee pot one Christmas, and I really love the shape of it. Incredible to think both of these items were made nearly 100 years ago and they’re still going strong.

I love old photos, too – especially these ones of my grandparents. I was delighted when my mum gave me Granny’s sapphire engagement ring and pearls. They’re so beautiful, but too precious to wear, really.

Is that your Grandfather and was he a jockey? Was that his dog? I love photos that pose more questions than they answer 🙂 Great stuff

Hi Minty – yes he was indeed a jockey who rode in the Grand National. I’m not sure whose dog it was, but very cute! x

I’m in love with that ring. If it was mine I’d wear it every day and just wave my hand around constantly, just in case people didn’t notice it. Beautiful.

You are so lucky to have such beautiful things. I love the photos. I think old photos are so special – a moment from the past captured forever. The ring is beautiful too – fab collection!

Wow, love your pics, the vintage photograph in particular. I LOVE old pics, even when I don’t know the people in them – one of my favourite things to do is rummage through the boxes of old photos you find in junk shops. Although I hate to think people have just thrown them away 🙁 x

What a collection! I love the sugar bowl, gorgeous combination of colours! The photography is gorgeous. I have some lovely old photos, as has my Mum who is a keen genealogist and I plan to reprint and display them all. Wedding ones are great but my favourite is one of my late Gran in her Land Army uniform.
