When I first started watching The Wire, I honestly thought it was all about McNulty (Dominic West). A good friend of mine said ‘no, watch out for Stringer Bell. Look beyond the obvious, girl.’ (She really used the word girl.)
A few weeks later, I had to concede she was right. McNulty is cute, but Stringer is hot.
Stringer is a complex character, alright. On the one hand he’s nothing but a drugs dealer, murderer, an all round bad guy; on the other he’s someone who tries to better himself, who wants to be a successful businessman. And he has a voice as smooth as melted chocolate.
No doubt (see what I did there?) the reason he’s so sexy though is the actor who plays him. Idris Elba.
Idris Elba is the reason I watch Luther (BBC1, tonight), which is the kind of series I usually avoid (I don’t generally like programmes which you have to hide behind two or more cushions and peep through the cracks to watch). He brings the same vulnerability to Luther as he did to Stringer Bell; even though the accents and the situations are completely different – Baltimore, London; criminal, crime-fighter. The fact that he’s a bear of a man is something I also find irresistible, because I’ve always preferred men with thighs bigger than my own.
Most of all, though, it’s his eyes. His big brown velvety eyes.
See what I mean?
I saw Dominic West on the Strand recently and can confirm he is incredibly attractive in the flesh. Unfortunately my legs turned to jelly and I couldn’t speak. I must have looked like a grinning fool. Goodness only knows what I’d be like if I saw Mr Elba.
