Life on the open road
One of my colleagues was telling us about her summer holiday plans yesterday. She and her boyfriend are flying to the States, where they’re hiring an RV and hitting the highways, travelling through Montana. It sounds very appealing – all that freedom of life on the open road, and the ever changing scenery.
Of course, you wouldn’t really be able to have an RV on our roads, so a camper van or caravan is probably the next best thing. Personally I’m a big fan of those silver retro camper vans (like the one Derek used to own in Grey’s Anatomy).
When we were growing up a family who lived close by had a static caravan in the countryside, right by a lake, which was great for family holidays. That’s probably why we loved playing in our toy caravan so much when we were kids (that and the fact we watched Scooby Doo obsessively). And one of my sister’s friends has a caravan situated in a park right by the beach – they often take the kids there for weekend.
But I’m very envious of the beautiful VW camper van owned by a family who live round the corner. Not just because it looks so cool, parked in their drive, but because it has – I’m not making this up – a big Italian coffee machine tucked away inside the back. So every Saturday morning they open it up and brew up fresh coffee, which smells amazing. I’m very tempted to ask them if I can have a cup.
As with any kind of vehicle, though, it’s important to make sure you’re fully covered in case of an accident or disaster – and that’s where companies like coastinsurance come in, providing coverage for everything from camper vans to forest lodges. After all, when you’ve invested in your holiday home away from home, you want to be able to enjoy it, worry-free.
